What is the ballot measure?

Voters will be asked whether the Tucson City Charter should be amended to prescribe specific mandatory minimum staffing levels for police officers and mandatory minimum response times for the Tucson Fire Department including minimum firefighter staffing levels to achieve these response times. These unfunded mandates would have to be met by the City of Tucson within five fiscal years with prescribed minimum yearly increases.

Push for more firefighters is based on obsolete code

Would you buy a car from him now?

Would you buy a car from him now?

During the recent “Cash for Clunkers” federal stimulus program, which gave auto dealers a financial life line, thanks to the Obama Administration, people have been flocking to and buying new, more fuel efficient cars thanks to a government program that works.

How does the Glendale, AZ Police Department Feel About This As Well?

From the Glendale, AZ Police Staffing Study – 2009, (Specifically Page 18):

“The IACP recognizes that ready-made, universally applicable patrol staffing standards do not exist. As has been stated, the ratio of police officers to population often has been used as a measure of staffing levels. Because of the many variables involved the use of ratios, such as officers-per-thousand in population, has been found to be inappropriate as a basis for staffing decisions and are not included in the IACP methodology.”

How Does the International Chief’s of Police Feel About Ratio Staffing?

From the IACP’s Patrol Staffing and Deployment Study brochure: Ratios, such as officers-per-thousand population, are totally inappropriate as a basis for staffing decisions. Accordingly, they have no place in the IACP methodology. Defining patrol staffing allocation and deployment requirements is a complex endeavor which requires consideration of an extensive series of factors and a sizable body of reliable, current data.
