How does the Glendale, AZ Police Department Feel About This As Well?

From the Glendale, AZ Police Staffing Study – 2009, (Specifically Page 18):

“The IACP recognizes that ready-made, universally applicable patrol staffing standards do not exist. As has been stated, the ratio of police officers to population often has been used as a measure of staffing levels. Because of the many variables involved the use of ratios, such as officers-per-thousand in population, has been found to be inappropriate as a basis for staffing decisions and are not included in the IACP methodology.”

How Does the International Chief’s of Police Feel About Ratio Staffing?

From the IACP’s Patrol Staffing and Deployment Study brochure: Ratios, such as officers-per-thousand population, are totally inappropriate as a basis for staffing decisions. Accordingly, they have no place in the IACP methodology. Defining patrol staffing allocation and deployment requirements is a complex endeavor which requires consideration of an extensive series of factors and a sizable body of reliable, current data.
